About ten years ago,

when I had just become a dentist, I was driving with my family when the engine warning light suddenly came on.
I took the car to a repair shop.

“It looks like an engine issue, but we’ll have to open it up to know for sure.
If it’s just a loose valve, it’ll cost a few tens of thousands of won, but if the engine itself is the problem, expect a few million.”

For a moment, my mind went blank, and I thought to myself,

“This must be exactly how my patients feel when they come to me for treatment.”

It isn’t easy to place your trust in a dentist you’ve just met.
Yet without that trust between patient and doctor, achieving truly good treatment outcomes is impossible.

I will always care for my patients as if they were my own family—with the sincerity of a son replacing his elderly mother’s dentures with implants, and the warmth of helping a cousin who once hid her smile because of crooked teeth.
